Behind the Design: How Your Feedback Built the All-New FITEK Utility Footplate

FITEK Utility Footplate demonstrating dual adjustability, featuring a 7-position adjustable bracket on the left and a 12-position rotating pedal on the right.

TL;DR:
After 8 months of testing and invaluable customer feedback, the newest addition to our premier FITEK Ozilliant Series is almost here! The Utility Footplate features dual multi-angle adjustability, a leave-on design that never needs to be detached from your rack, and a massive 600kg load rating for heavy cable belt squats, seated rows, and weighted step-ups.

Every great piece of gym equipment starts with a simple question: How can we make this better?

Today, we want to take you behind the scenes and share the origin story of our upcoming Utility Footplate – a flagship addition to the FITEK Ozilliant Series that took eight months of relentless engineering, brutal testing, and invaluable community feedback to perfect.

Where It All Started: Listening to You

The journey began with our original, highly specialized Seated Row Foot Plate. While it got the job done for basic rowing, we knew there was significant room for improvement. The setup wasn’t as seamless as we wanted, you had to attach it to the uprights, drag a bench over, and if you wanted to switch to a lat pulldown seat, you had to take the entire footplate off the rack.

But the biggest catalyst for change came directly from our community:

“Several lifters reached out pointing out that the static pedal angle affected ankle comfort and pulling biomechanics. The consensus was clear: If the pedal angle could be adjusted, it would be an absolute game-changer.”

The Breakdown: Dual Adjustability

To achieve the perfect biomechanical setup for every user, we broke the footplate down into two separate mechanical adjustment zones:

12-Position Adjustable Paddle

7-Position Adjustable Bracket

8 Months of Ozilliant Innovation

As part of our premium Ozilliant Series, this product had to embody our highest standards of engineering, versatility, and uncompromising durability. Over an eight-month development process, we went through countless design drafts, factory iterations, and heavy-duty prototyping.

We didn’t do it in isolation, we actually sent early design blueprints to some of our most loyal customers to get their unfiltered opinions. Your real-world feedback was crucial in shaping the final version of this beast.

Built for 600kg Heavy Duty: Rows, Belt Squats & Step-Ups

The result is a radically improved footplate featuring multi-angle adjustability from two distinct mounting positions:

  • High & Low Seated Rows: Easily transition between bench rows and low floor rows.
  • Weighted Step-Ups & Box Squats: Locks horizontally into a non-slip, ultra-stable platform for unilateral leg training.
  • Cable Belt Squats: Provides a spacious, level surface with zero flex under maximum loading.
  • Leave-On Functionality: Engineered so it can live permanently on your rack without interfering with other attachments.

The 600kg Upgrade: True to the Ozilliant reputation for heavy-duty performance, we expanded the pedal surface area and drastically reinforced the frame to ensure absolute safety during heavy belt squats and step-ups—withstanding a massive 600kg of continuous pressure.

Endless Training Possibilities

What started as a simple redesign has evolved into a true multi-purpose powerhouse. Beyond seated rows, belt squats, and step-ups, this footplate is perfect for calf raises, heel-elevated squats, and more. The Ozilliant Utility Footplate is dropping very soon!
